Important

We help find homes for cats and kittens who need them. These are usually stray, lost or abandoned cats. They come in all sizes, shapes and colours. That does not make us a sort of cat supermarket, able to produce a feline that matches your decor, taste or lack thereof.
We get way too many people asking us for cats of a particular colour and shape - usually 'white with a bushy tail'. If you have a particular preference, you know what, go look for a cat yourself. If you're genuinely interested in changing an unfortunate cat's life, you won't care what colour it's going to be. Otherwise, please, don't waste our time.

CUPA's Ambulance

CUPA is in the process of giving me a written explanation for not sending the ambulance when Madhubanthi requested it.Meanwhile I got a call from a CUPA trustee who was very upset to hear that no ambulance was sent that evening.

She also gave me very disturbing news. CUPA has more or less suspended its night emergency service due to a financial crisis. I am not sure of the details butit seems that CUPA can no longer afford to have a 24 hour ambulance service. This means that injured animals cannot be helped anymore, especially at night.

What she suggested is that if the ambulance service can be sponsored then it could be restored. The rough break up per month is as follows:

Driver salary:Rs.7000
Attender salary:Rs.4000
Petrol:Rs.10,000+
Medicines:Rs.5000+
Misc:Rs.4000+
Total:Rs.30,000(approx)

Can we get sponsorship? Is any member of the blog interested in contributing some amount? JP&I will try to pool in Rs.3000 every month.

The CUPA Annual General Body Meeting is on the 21st of September.I have been asked to bring up the ambulance issue and other CUPA related issues there. Also if we can give them a sponsorship plan by then, it will be wonderful.I hope we can help restore the ambulance service for the sake of the many animals that can be saved.

count me in @ 3000/month.

but only as long as the ambulance service is restored and dependent on how responsive they are to crisis calls...this is not a "general" donation.

can you also ask them about "misc+ expenses"?...like what gets included in it?

Sure, i will write to them and bring it up in the AGM. Also CUPA has completely stopped the stray dog sterilisation (both ABC nad TNVR).

Hi Yasmine,
When we met the last time, I did mention to you how people at CUPA behaved with me and Bengt....? I stopped going to CUPA because I felt I could better utilize my time and money on street dogs on my own. I have, since leaving CUPA, had 48 dogs sterilized and vaccinated through Dr Pawan and Dr Kumar. They charge the minimum required and are happy to do it.
Bengt refuses to go to CUPA as he was pretty much insulted by Lingaraj telling him that he was a cheapskate despite donating as well as buying around 10 - 15 tee shirts.
I was very disillusioned as I was told to play with the puppies every time I went there. No one gave a shit that I was one more resource.
As far as the ambulance is concerned I am going to back down. I have ABSOLUTELY NO FAITH in CUPA and it's work anymore.

Sorry girl.

natasha: i completely understand what you are saying...i wish i could do something like you are doing..unfortunately, i am not as available to the street dogs as you are and do not have access to as many resources...the best i can do is give CUPA money and request them to be accountable for it. sigh.

I spoke a little to Pawan about this too. He has some ideas so I need to try and catch up with him on a weekend and discuss things further.

I wish CUPA would not burn its bridges like this. Bengt is just one of many people who have been put off by either Sudha or Lingaraj's attitude, and would otherwise have been valuable supporters. CUPA has to understand that shelters need volunteers and supporters from the common public, we are not simply a nuisance to be brushed aside.

i dont care where the money goes...as long as something gets done. anandchaya seems to be doing good work altho' i would rather donate for them to rehabilitate its residents and get them into homes.

i have long since realised that animal lovers need to work on campaigns to bring stray animals into homes as pets..and foster community dogs rather than 'maintain' them in shelters. shelters are only a temp. solution.

a general awareness campaign is also needed in bangalore. i dont believe that bangaloreons are cruel or that they lack compassion..at worse, they are apathetic(the majority, that is..there are nasty ones everywhere who derive pleasure from tormenting animals and giving them grief)...rather i think they are rather ignorant..and unaware as to whats really happening to animals.

Count Eric and I in also at 3000 a month (but as Jellicles said, only if the ambulance service and/or the sterilization program resumes) . It is absurd that CUPA would abandon all of its responsibilities like this. I am sure that Ms. Rogers would be heartbroken to see what has become of her precious foundation. Compassion Unlimited Plus Action my foot! I had a similar experience as Soulmia with CUPA, why are they turning away volunteers in favor of paid staff? Don't they understand that if they get someone to do the job for nothing versus paying an employee to do the same thing they can save money and put that toward, say the ambulance and sterilization program! As JP aptly noted, they are concerned now only with feeding and caring for themselves and damn the animals!

Sorry ! I am a little late in responding to this post.
I would also like to contribute my share to something that can be counted upon in times of need.

I would like the funds to reach an organisation that utilises it for the proper cause at the right time.

I will bring up the ambulance issue and our offers to help at the Annual General Body meeting.Let us hope that something positive comes out of it.
I get so upset, especially when I remember how much Mishi (Crystal Rogers) struggled to get CUPA going in a tiny house full of cats and dogs with no one to help her.She was 84+ and she did her best. I dont know what CUPA's excuse is!!!
