Important

We help find homes for cats and kittens who need them. These are usually stray, lost or abandoned cats. They come in all sizes, shapes and colours. That does not make us a sort of cat supermarket, able to produce a feline that matches your decor, taste or lack thereof.
We get way too many people asking us for cats of a particular colour and shape - usually 'white with a bushy tail'. If you have a particular preference, you know what, go look for a cat yourself. If you're genuinely interested in changing an unfortunate cat's life, you won't care what colour it's going to be. Otherwise, please, don't waste our time.

Radio Indigo apologized twice on air following the protests and replied to each email that was sent against the program and RJ Meghna.

I have heard from other people who called the station that they are considering running programs to sensitize people towards animal related issues. I am glad that they are taking this stand.

I hope though that the person who committed this crime is traced and arrested, but I think that chances of that happening are slim.

JP's friend called me from Mumbai to ask for help with another cruelty case. Someone had thrown his girlfriend's pet cat against the wall, breaking the cats leg. She wanted to know what could be done. I thought it is useful to post information about what can be done in such cases.

Firstly, BE BRAVE. Go ahead and file an FIR. Or ask an animal welfare NGO to do it for you. Sadly the police are not always aware of the laws that protect animals. It is useful if you take with you a print out or better still if you have a copy of the Indian Constitution with you.

Based on the FIR a police constable goes to the house and arrests the person and confiscates the animal. We accompany because we take the animal away. However, if an NGO is helping you, they will. The confiscation may not be immediate because the family might fight it. However, in most cases the animal is taken away.

IPC(Indian Penal Code)Section 428.

Mischief by killing or maiming animal of the value of ten rupees

hi,
this isnt really related to the post but i moved to bangalore a few months ago & have come across many cases of ridiculous cruelty against stray dogs...ofcourse when u talk to these idiots who do such things they generally tend to ignore u or say some incoherent crap which doesnt make much sense..if in the future i see some cruelty, is there a law i can cite which stops them from hurting/scaring strays?
also couple of times while returning home,i have found strays in bad shape (hurt/injured etc)..whenever i tried to call pfa, no1 picks up..once i called karuna & they answered but said that this area(sadashiva nagar) doesnt come under their "jurisdiction" & so they cant do anythin...so is there any organisation i can call at nights if i see some strays in bad shape?
this is a great blog. keep it up!

Hi,

For all cases of cruelty you can file and FIR. You can also call CUPA at 080 22947300, 22947301 and ask them for Mr. Shantakumar's number.

for help with injured animals in the evenings, you can call the same numbers and say that you spoke to me. very often, and yours being the second case i have heard of, that this is 'out of their jurisdiction' is very wrong. they HAVE to respond to a distress call. if this does not happen you MUST email CUPA at cupablr@gmail.com and complain. that is the only way it will work.
also call me at 9845380748 if you do not succeed

Hi Yasmine,
I came across these pictures here:

Not very nice at all to see these lovely animals chained in the sun. Is there anything that can be done?
