This is what a grey tabby kitten looks like.
I think it's pretty cute. And a full-grown grey tabby can be downright gorgeous.
Not for the people who came over last night wanting to adopt kittens.
Immediately.
So much so that, even though we'd ask them to come on the weekend, they barged into our home on a work night. A mother and her 20-something daughter, who'd been telling us how much her mother loved cats and used to bring kittens home in her schoolbag as a schoolgirl. The first thing I noticed is that the older woman doesn't seem to like cats very much. She shrinks away from them with abrupt, jerky motions. When one of our cats approaches her curiously, she instinctively begins to aim a kick at it before stopping herself.
Anyway, we bring them two of the little grey kittens we have at home. The mother's face falls. The daughter plays with them, holds one out to her mother who shrinks away from it. 'Oh, these are ordinary grey kittens...we want a brown and white, or a black or white or a white one...' the woman says. We go to put the kittens back and we hear her going on about the 'colour' of the kittens and how unappealing it is. She calls up someone on her cellphone and loudly declaims in Malyalam how unappealing these 'ash colour' kittens are. You're no beauty yourself, I think to myself.
These people go on and on about how they want kittens of some other colour, as if our shop is a feline department store. I retreat to the computer room to simmer gently while Yasmine politely sends them away with false assurances that we'll call them if we get other kittens. We'll never call them.

Thanks in advance
i really dont understand why peiople have these colour prefrences. if u had a cohice, would u go and change your body colour? u are born with a certain colour, some white, some grey and some dark, when you accept your bodies as it is, then why not animals>?
its really ridiculous to see how people are comparing animals, asking to provide a white with orage, or organge tabby or anything as such! i guess these guys should go and genetically modify their children also if they happen to get pregnant/ have babies. what if the child is dark, or light and not as per expectations?
a cat is a cat, be it black, brown, white, grey or blue for that matter! if i get such people, who ask me if i have any other kitten/ pup for adoption, i tell them that i have only so many, and if they want, they can pick one up. there are people who ask if i will be getting more (as if its a mall, where things are out of stock and u will be getting ne wstock soon!) and to such people i tell that if they are not interested in adopting right now, they can go and bother someone else. even if i get a animal which suits their choice, my kitten/ pup is probably allergic to their skin colour, so i wud rather let it be on road and get older, than give it away to someone who is going to mess up its life!
if bittu were to be of any other colour than orange, he wud still be bittu and as much loved as he is right now!
hi!
good decision u took. i adopted a cat and her fur is with all colors. it really doesn't matter this aspect. but what matter is to find a caring family. LOVE HAS NO COLOR.

Aha... and they found another Mallu home. I think it's Saphira in the picture (a long time back). I miss her a lot.
General update (if you still care ppl!): The two tabbies who got called ugly came home with me the next day. Since then, the girl passed away in an accident, but the boy is the smartest cat in the world. He has two ginger brothers too now.
